Where ethical traditional medicine meets community trust—Vidya Lead Academy’s SMART commitments shaping the future of TCIM.
Vidya Lead Academy is pleased to share that its SMART Commitments, submitted as a private, non-State actor, were formally acknowledged during the Closing Ceremony of the Second Global Summit on Traditional Medicine, held in New Delhi on 19 December 2024.
Among sixty global commitments showcased at the Summit, Vidya Lead Academy’s commitment was displayed in the presence of the Honourable Prime
A Commitment Rooted in Safety, Ethics, and Community Care
Through its SMART Commitments, Vidya Lead Academy focuses on strengthening the quality, safety, and ethical delivery of TCIM-based addiction services in India, with a specific emphasis on ear acupuncture using the NADA Protocol. The commitments prioritize standardization, practitioner competence, and patient dignity within community and public-health settings.
Key commitments include:
-
Promoting standardised ethical and safety guidelines for NADA-based ear acupuncture
-
Supporting service delivery through trained Acupuncture Detoxification Specialists (ADS)
-
Contributing to annual CME-accredited safety and quality trainings organised by the Indian Association of Acupuncture Detoxification Specialists (IAADS)
Why This Matters
In areas such as addiction, mental health, and chronic stress—where stigma, silence, and delayed help-seeking remain major barriers—safe, standardised, and culturally resonant TCIM interventions offer trusted entry points into care. Vidya Lead Academy’s SMART Commitments align with WHO’s emphasis on integrating TCIM into health systems while safeguarding quality, ethics, and patient rights.
The Way Forward
To fulfil these commitments, Vidya Lead Academy will:
-
Expand capacity-building and training for social workers, counsellors, and TCIM practitioners
-
Strengthen cross-sector collaboration across health, social welfare, and education systems
-
Support evidence-informed practice, supervision, and monitoring
-
Advance peer-led, preventive, and recovery-oriented community models
Through these actions, Vidya Lead Academy reaffirms its role as a responsible non-State actor—working toward a future where traditional knowledge, public health systems, and community empowerment come together to deliver safe, inclusive, and people-centered care.
